When you are first starting out in any craft, one of the hardest things that you may face is actually coming up with an idea. It can be hard to take an object and think of the best ways to improve it with a craft and decoupage is no different. No one, regardless of their experience with arts and crafts, can come into it and have a host of ideas to begin with. Usually, crafts start with a few ideas from other people.
And that is the whole reason behind this article, giving you a few ideas about what you can do with your decoupage.
Number One: Jewelry
One of the first ideas that I always tell people is to make jewelry or to spice up some of their jewelry. There are many different things that you can do from bangles to headbands and really, you can decoupage any old or worn piece of jewelry.
An easy decoupage craft with jewelry is to take an inexpensive plastic bracelet, the solid ones, and decoupage with bright fabrics or colorful paper. When you are done, you will have a unique, one of a kind bracelet that costs only a few cents to make.
Number Two: Outdoor Accessories
Many people don’t really think of decoupage as a craft that you can use outside but it is, surprisingly, quite durable. There are a number of ways that you can decoupage your outdoor accessories including covering your flower pots and planters.
One of my personal favorites is to spruce up a gardening caddy or bag. While it won’t see much time outside, it will be used outside and will offer you a beautiful piece to showcase while you showcase your flowers.
Number Three: Home Décor
Home décor is one of the main reasons why there is such a popular appeal for decoupage. There are so many different things that you can do with home décor from vases to wall hangings. Really, if you have an item that you can see having decoupage, you can do something with it.
As with the other projects, I tend to have a few favorites when it comes to home décor. One of those is wall hangings using canvas or a boxed frame. Take a nice piece of wallpaper and apply it to the frame before you varnish it. The end result is a beautiful piece of art that will tie your room together.
Number Four: Furniture
Chances are, whether you are new to decoupage or not, you have probably seen decoupage used with creating unique, one of a kind furniture. It is a traditional use of decoupage and one that has endless possibilities. A cute idea for furniture decoupage is to take a small end table and add pages of a favorite book. The end result is a stylish reading table that is perfect for any little library or reading space.
Number Five: Gifts and Decorations
Finally, decoupage can be used to create one of a kind gifts or decorations. It is perfect for interesting Christmas bulbs or for platters that are themed towards a holiday.
They are also perfect for homemade gifts for any holiday and seem to be perfect for Mother’s Day gifts.
